Artist Statement / background

At the Edge of the Vast Ocean and the Arid Desert, Our Story Begins.

Anne Stark is an artist creating one-of-a-kind, hand-sculpted art pieces rooted in transformation, resilience, and memory. Born in Seoul and raised in the United States after a life-saving heart surgery, her work reflects renewal and the quiet strength of survival. Working with sterling silver clay and clay paints, and incorporating the skeletal remains of desert cacti, Anne transforms fragile organic elements into enduring sculptural forms. Music plays a central role in her practice, shaping rhythm, texture, and emotional resonance, often translating silence, love, vibration, and sound into form. Drawing on her studies in science and art, her work as a teacher and in diplomacy, and her love of languages and travel, Anne brings an eclectic sensitivity to her art. Her pieces function as intimate art objects—vessels of memory inspired by nature, music, and stillness. A portion of proceeds supports children in need of heart surgery, offering the same second chance she once received.

About Anne Stark

Born in Seoul and journeyed to the U.S. as a teenager after a life-saving heart surgery, Anne Stark creates art rooted in transformation, resilience, and memory. Her jewelry gives new life to the skeletal remains of desert cacti. Once lifeless, now reborn in sterling silver clay.

With a diverse background spanning science, teaching, diplomacy, and language, Anne eventually found her passion in metalsmithing, metal clay art, photography, painting and music. Each piece is uniquely hand-sculpted and infused with the emotional depth of music, the silence of desert winds, and the echo of love remembered.

A devoted concertgoer, Anne draws profound inspiration from the sound world of music, often translating its resonance into form. Her creative life is also nourished by a deep love for science, nature, literature, painting, and photography, all of which inform the emotional and textural layers of her work.
